What We're About

When the Church was formed, it was far different than anything else the world had ever seen. All through His ministry, the teachings of Jesus were like nothing that had been heard. Jesus came to bring the heart of man back to God. He gave us the commands of God and lived in the way God expects from all of us.

The Texas Road Church of Christ strives for this. We do our absolute best to live and worship according to the New Testament pattern. We strive to provide a Biblical answer for everything we do.

What To Expect

Our Worship Setting

Congregations of the Lord's Church today gather in many different types of places; some in their homes, others in rented or public facilities. The Texas Road Church of Christ has been blessed to have our own modest building for the worship and praise of God.

We do not separate into different classes. Instead we assemble as a group (Hebrews 10:25) and worship the Lord together. Our assembly is simple and easy for all Christians to participate in spirit and in truth (John 4:24).

Singing

When you come to worship with us you may notice one large difference between us and most churches: we have no instruments in our worship. This is because of some simple commands from the Lord.

We are instructed to sing and make melody in our hearts to God (Ephesians 5:19) joining our voices together in praise to Him. The singing we do is to be with grace in our hearts (Colossians 3:16) and with out mouths.

Our songs will be lead by the members of the congregation at different times during the worship service. None of us are professional singers, but there is still nothing quite like lifting up our voices in praise to God with one another.

Prayer

During our worship we will have at a minimum two prayers. This is because of our desire to thank Him, praise Him, and make our requests known to God as an offer of worship to Him (Philippians 4:6). Just like our songs, our prayers are lead by different members of the congregation. In the establishment of the New Testament, we have all become a royal priesthood with access to the Father through prayer
(1 Peter 2:9).

There is no universal position of prayer. Some kneel, some simply bow their heads, some stand, others fall on their face to God. Whatever you choose to do, please join us in humbling ourselves to God in prayer.

Communion

One area of our worship that stands out above all others is our communion. Each first day of the week (Acts 20:7) the Texas Road Church of Christ gathers to commune the suffering and death of our Lord Jesus Christ. We do it just as Jesus instructed the night He was betrayed in the garden.

The communion consists of three simple items: one loaf (representing the body of Jesus) and one cup (representing the New Covenant) containing grape juice (representing the blood of Jesus). The bread will be passed to each individual after a short prayer by the brother attending the table as each Christian breaks off a piece to eat (Matthew 26:26). After the bread is passed to each member the brother will do the same with the cup after a short prayer and each Christian will drink from the same cup (Matthew 26:27).

Knowing how important this part of our worship is to the Lord we do our absolute best to follow the example given to us in the scriptures: Matthew 26:26-30, Mark 14:22-26, Luke 22:19-22,
1 Corinthians 11:23-26.

While visiting the Texas Road Church of Christ we do not want you to feel any pressure in participating in the communion. If you wish not to take part feel free to pass the bread or cup to the next person.

Teaching

The inspiration for our teaching is very simple: the Bible. Different men of the congregation will teach each worship service. Each teacher holds no special title or wears special garments, but each man teaches one at a time (1 Corinthians 14:40) and bases his teaching on what God has revealed in the Bible (2 Timothy 3:16).

We encourage everyone to follow along and study the topic on their own (Acts 17:11). After the worship service concludes feel free to approach the speaker and ask questions to further understand the topic presented.

Contribution

The funding of the Texas Road Church of Christ comes entirely from its members. We do not ask for external donations, have drives or fundraisers of any kind. Instead, ever first day of the week each member lays something aside (1 Corinthians 16:1-2) as God has prospered us. The Bible instructs us how these funds are to be used such as the needs of the members of the Church, spreading the gospel, and supporting evangelists and elders.

Do not feel pressure to participate. We do not solicit funds from anyone who is not a member of the congregation.
